DSL Lite
Internet Nebraska is pleased to announce that we are compatible with Alltel's DSL Lite.
If you were hesitant to switch to DSL before, you now have nothing stopping
you. DSL Lite is a new DSL package that Alltel is offering that runs at a
speed of 256k down and 128k up, making the service much cheaper.
Right now, if you sign up for DSL Lite and sign the 1 year contract, you will receive the DSL Modem for free, or you can purchase it for $100.
If you already have a DSL line provided by Alltel, and wish to switch to DSL Lite, there will be a $24 modification fee applied. If your service is still under contract by Alltel, you will be charged a $100 termination fee by them unless you sign a new contract.

DSL is connected constantly, so you never have to wait for your computer to
make a connection, saving you even more time.
What are the differences between DSL Lite and regular DSL?
The speed and cost are two obvious differences. DSL Lite runs at
256kbps down and 64kbps up. The monthly charge is $21 from Alltel and
$13.95 from Internet Nebraska. One of the biggest differences is the
lack of static IP addresses. If you need a static IP address, you will
need to sign up for a normal DSL plan.

We are currently taking orders for DSL in all of these areas.
Place your orders with this
DSL Order Form.
Note that not all locations in every city will be eligible to receive
DSL service. Distance and line quality limitations can make DSL inoperative
for some locations. Alltel will perform a line quality check after your order
is placed to help determine if you can receive DSL.
What are the computer requirements for DSL?
For DSL connections, we support PC-compatible computers running Windows 95
or Windows 98, or Macintosh computers running Open Transport (TCP/IP) 1.1.1
or higher. Windows 3.1 is not supported.
Computers running other operating systems such as Linux and Windows NT should
also work as long as they have a network card and are able to obtain their IP
address via DHCP. However, technical support for these computers will not be
provided by Internet Nebraska.
How does DSL compare to other high speed technologies?
DSL blows away ISDN in both performance and cost. Since your DSL line
is always connected, there are no additional connect-time fees as there
are with ISDN. DSL's speed leaves ISDN's 64k or even 128k in the dust.
How much does DSL cost?
There are several different components that make up the total cost of
DSL: the initial installation fee, the hardware, the DSL line cost, and
the Internet service.
Initial Installation
The telephone company charges an initial activation fee of
$25. There is no start-up charge from Internet Nebraska. See
the DSL Pricing Guide for more information.
Hardware
For DSL access, you will need a DSL modem installed in your computer or a
DSL router. If you are using a DSL router you will also need a 10baseT
or 100baseT network card in each computer that will be accessing
the Internet over the DSL connection.
Many computers already have a network card installed, however for those
computers that don't already have a network card, they can purchased at
most any computer store. Optional
installation is also available, see the DSL Pricing Guide for
more information.
To hook up more than one computer to the DSL connection, an Ethernet hub
will also be required. Hubs are also available at most computer stores.
The Efficient 2614 or 2624 that is available through Alltel will also
act as a four port hub.
DSL Line Charges
The telephone company charges DSL fees in addition to those of your
standard phone line. The charge for DSL Lite is $21 per month.
Complete pricing information is available in our DSL Pricing Guide
Note that these charges are in addition to your regular phone line costs.
Since many of you are currently paying nearly $30/month for a second phone
line and access fees that are no longer required, the price difference is
smaller than it appears at first.
Internet Service Charges
Internet Nebraska will be charging $13.95 per month for a DSL Lite connection.
See the DSL Pricing Guide for complete descriptions and
pricing.
