*** Welcome to Windows 98 ***
Microsoft is on the verge of releasing its newest incarnation of the Windows
operating system, Windows 98. Due to hit store shelves on June 25th, this
significant upgrade to the Windows operating system is touted as the easiest to
use and most reliable version of Windows released to date. Fortunately for
everyone, setting up your computer to connect to Internet Nebraska has never
been easier. You'll be up and running on the Internet again a few minutes
after upgrading to Windows 98.
After installing Windows 98, you're presented with the customary "Welcome to
Windows 98" screen. It is from this screen that our short journey begins. (If
you've already closed the welcome screen, simply pull up the Start menu, choose
Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and Welcome to Windows 98.) Begin by
clicking "Connect to the Internet" on the Windows 98 welcome screen.
Choose "I have an existing Internet account..." Click Next.
Choose "Select this option if you are accessing the Internet using an
Internet service provider..." Click Next.
Choose "Connect using my phone line." Click Next.
(If you haven't installed the driver for you modem, you will be asked to
do so now. Follow the on-screen instructions to install your modem,
and then continue with the next step.)
Enter the phone number you will need to dial with the modem. A complete
list of Internet Nebraska phone numbers is available from our home page at
http://www.inetnebr.com/access.html. Click Next.
Enter your Internet Nebraska username and password. Be sure to enter a
capital "P" in front of your username to let our server know you're using
PPP to connect to Internet Nebraska. Click Next.
You will next be asked if you wish to change the advanced settings. Although
it is not absolutely required, you will receive quicker and more consistent
connections if you do. We recommend choosing yes, and then click Next.
Choose "PPP". Click Next.
Choose "I don't need to type anything when logging on." Click Next.
Choose "My Internet service provider automatically assigns me one" when
asked to provide an IP address. Click Next.
Choose "Always use the following:", and then enter the following numbers.
In the "DNS Server" blank, enter 199.184.119.1. In the "Alternate DNS
Server" blank, enter 198.247.225.251. Click Next.
For the Connection Name, we recommend something descriptive, like
"Internet Nebraska." Click Next.
You will now be asked if you want to set up your e-mail account now. To
use Outlook Express for e-mail, choose "Yes", and click Next.
You will now be asked for your "Display Name." This is your real name,
e.g., John Smith. Enter it and click Next.
Choose "Yes," and click Next.
Enter your e-mail address (e.g., joe@inetnebr.com), and click Next.
For "My incoming mail server is...," choose "POP3". In the "Incoming Mail
Server" blank, enter mail.inetnebr.com, and in the "Outgoing Mail
Server" blank, also enter mail.inetnebr.com. Click Next.
Choose "Log on using POP account name and password." Enter you account
name and password in the blanks, but be sure NOT to enter a capital "P"
in the username blank. Choose Next.
You will now be asked to name your mail account (Friendly Name.) Name it
whatever you wish, your e-mail address would be a good choice. Click Next.
Next, you will be asked if you wish to set up your news server now. Choose
Yes, and click Next.
First, you will be asked for your display name. Enter your real name in
this blank. (It will probably already be in the blank.) Click Next.
You will now be asked to enter your e-mail address. Do so, and click
Next.
In the "News (NNTP) Server" blank, enter news.inetnebr.com. Do NOT
check "My news server requires me to log on." Click Next.
You are next asked to enter a "Friendly Name" for this connection. This
is so that multiple persons can have news settings on the same computer.
Enter something descriptive. Your name would work fine. Click Next.
Lastly, you will be asked if you want to set up Internet Directory Service.
Choose No, and click Next.
Finally, click Finish, and you're ready to hit the net with Windows 98!
*** Don't Forget Father's Day ***
The Internet can be a life-saver for chronic procrastinators. Even if you have
waited till the last minute, you can still show Dad you care with a few quick
clicks of your mouse. Check out the following sites for gift ideas:
For an "emergency" last-minute gift idea, dial "911 Gifts"
( http://www.911gifts.com ). Here you can find everything from a golf-ball
"monogrammer" to a chrome-plated cigar-holder/whiskey flask.
If you can't find the perfect gift here, there are (as always) plenty of
others. Here is a small sampling of on-line shopping sites:

If you really have waited till the eleventh hour, and are afraid the whiskey
flask/cigar holder might not arrive on time, you may want to send an email
Father's Day card to let the old man know it's on the way. Try one of these
sites for greeting cards galore:

[Warning: Internet greeting cards are no "cooler" and no less hokey, corny or
cute than greetings cards you will find at your local drug store. The only
advantage is that you don't have to leave home to send them.]
*** The Eyes of the Web are Watching ***
Web-cams are sprouting up everywhere: at busy intersections, in daycare
centers, on rooftops, and in living rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms all over the
world. With web-cams, police can arrest speeders without putting down their
doughnuts, parents can keep an eye on their children (and their daycare
providers). The rest of us just have more stuff to look at on the internet.
Some of the more interesting web cam sites are:
"Around the World in 80 Clicks" ( http://www.steveweb.com/80clicks/ ), wherein
the modern-day Phileas Fogg (some guy named "Steve"), takes us on a web-cam
tour of 80 cities around the world, from New York to Paris to Moscow.
"The Internet Real-Time Camera Source" (
http://www.argo.net/~frank/net_cams.html ) has a good collection of web-cams,
sorted into categories. Lincoln's own world-famous Capitol Building is
featured in the "Netcam City" category.
To see a random view from a list of thousands of web cams around the world, go
to the "Random Camera" at ( http://www.xmission.com/~bill/randcamera.html ).
For zillions of other web cam sites, point your browser to your favorite search
engine and do a search for "web cams." Who knows what or whom you might find
-- maybe yourself.

little as we charge for it! Give us a call at our office, 434-8680, and
